              Albert Ganado was born in Valletta on the 9th of March 1924, to parents Judge Dr Roberto Federico and Marija nee’ Vassallo. He started his studies at St Joseph High School, Lyceum and University of Malta where he obtained his B.A. (1943) and LL.D. (1946).

              In 1947 he obtained his warrant and was able to practice as a lawyer. In 1954 he was nominated to act as a Magistrate for the Maltese courts and between 1962-1963, he became the president of the Guild of Graduates. During the same time, between 1960-1963 he was nominated as an examiner of Maltese Constitutional History by the Royal University of Malta. Ganado was also involved in politics; he was a member of the executive committee of the Malta Nationalist Party where he attended the Round Table Conference in London as one of the delegates (1955). In 1956 he was assigned the role of assistant secretary, however he resigned from this political party in 1959. In 1955 he was the co-founder of ‘Zghaghah Nazzjonalisti’, whilst serving as a president for the same movement between 1955-1959. In 1959 he was declared as the honorary president of the same movement. In 1958 he was a compromiser for the Democratic Nationalist Party, in 1959 he was elected as the vice-president and from 1960 he was the secretary general for the same party.

              In 1963, Ganado attended the Malta Independence Conference in London as an advisor for the party. Albert Ganado was also a social activist; he was the co-founder of the Malta Historical Society (1950), the treasurer (1951-1957) and a committee member twice in 1960 and 1963. On numerous occasions he was a committee member of the Chamber of Lawyers. He was also a co-founder and member of the St Paul Apologetic Circle, where he engage in multiple conferences about catholic apologies in many Maltese towns and villages. Moreover, he conducted a course about Constitutional law for the Social Action Movement (Movument Azzjoni Socjali) twice, and in 1962 he presented lectures about Maltese History to German students at the Royal University of Malta.

              He is also a collector of Maltese artifacts mainly books, manuscripts, maps and photos.

              Karmenu Gruppetta was a Maltese actor and play-write, born in Sliema in 1922. At 16 years of age he joined the Royal Malta Artillery Association (RMAA) as a soldier in the Royal Engineers (Malta Section). During his acting career he took part in theatre (shows such as Francis Ebejer's 'Hadd fuq il- Bejt'), plays, TV programmes, and also took part in films filmed in Malta such as 'Pulp' (1972). He lead several acting companies and won awards and diplomas for his works. He died in 1997.

              The Commerce Department was set up towards the end of 2000, on the recommendation of the Operations Review carried out in the Ministry for Economic Services.

              In 1969 Malta ratified the Universal Copyright Convention and in 1977 joined the World Intellectual Property Organisation. In 1994 Malta became a founder member of the World Trade Organisation and was thus bound by the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights as from 2000. That very same year the century old laws governing copyright, patents and trademarks were repealed and replaced by new legislation. In 2002 new legislation concerning design was also introduced.

              Marich, Vincenzo, 1813-1866

              Vincenzo Marich, born circa 1813, registered the business, known today as V. Marich and Co., in 1838. Vinenzo was marrier to Natalizia Lo Re (Lore) and had no children of their own. By 1862, the business received its first appointment by His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales in 1862, where permission to affix "By appointment to His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales" over the door of their establishment was granted. Vincenzo probably retired from the business around 1864, handing over the business to Lawrence Rizzo Marich.

              Lawrence Rizzo Marich, who was the first cousin, once removed of Vincenzo Marich, was first involved in the business as an apprentice to help in the daily running of the business. By the time the business was handed over to Lawrence, the company had taken the new established name V. Marich and Co. since the first mention of this company was in the mid-1860s.

              Bice Mizzi nee Vassallo was a Maltese pianist, considered among the foremost pianists of her generation. She is the daughter of composer Paolino Vassallo and Maria Anna nee Grech, and the wife of former Maltese Prime Minister Enrico Mizzi. Her first notable performance was in 1909 where she performed a recital at the Manoel Theatre under the patronage of the Bishop of Malta Pietro Pace, organised in aid of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Sliema. She also performed a recital at Wigmore Hall in London and performed at a concert by Maltese composer Carmelo Pace in 1946. Mizzi had a son, Dun Fortunat Mizzi. She died in 1985.

              Mons Fortunat Mizzi was a Maltese priest and the founder of the Moviment Azzjoni Socjali. He was the only child of Prime Minister Enrico Mizzi and Bice Mizzi. Mizzi was ordered a priest in 1952 and founded the Moviment Azzjoni Socjali in 1955 amongst other trade unions and cooperatives. He was a member for many years in the Church’s councils and helped in the translation of the Vatican II Council documents. In 2010, together with Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, Mizzi set up the Fortunato and Enrico Mizzi Foundation to administer property, archives and other memorabilia of the Mizzi Family.

              Rodgers joined the RAF in his late 20s and was a trained photographer, very often doing aerial photography. He also documented his time in Malta in the late 1930s through photography.
