In the first part of the interview Salvu gave a detailed picture of life in the past and his involvement in agriculture as a boy. During his work in the fields he cultivated wheat, potatoes and onions. Salvu explained some of the hardships and difficulties farmers faced especially in war time since certain produce like wheat was taken by the British to be rationed. He also described the food they ate with an emphasis on bread. He gave a detailed account of his work with the British and some injuries he endured.
