Aboukir Bay is a small village in Egypt about 15 miles from Alexandria. Here in March 1801, the British troops landed under the command of Sir Ralph Abercromby and fought a sanguinary conflict with the French troops whom they defeated with great loss. The veteran leader was wounded during the battle and died a few days later.
