Dates covered: 1920s-1980s. In his second interview, Michael explained how even though refugees were new to the area, a communal feeling had developed between them and the people of Rabat over the course of the war. Michael had joined the Malta Volunteer Defence Force (M.V.D.F.) - also known as the Malta Home Guard - and the Malta Auxiliary Corps (M.A.C.). He recalled enemy pilots bailing out over Malta and then being captured and taken as prisoners of war. He had said the fear was palpable and destruction was everywhere.
