His father was a Senior Sanitary Inspector and had been officially responsible for Lija and other localities. His mother was a housewife. When he was young, he used to spend Sundays with his uncle, who worked as a store officer at Ingieret. They would climb trees and shoot birds to eat them in the evening. Maurice used to work as an engineer. He had always lived in Lija and had a child called Mark.
