Scope and content

In the second part of the interview, Esther narrated how her brothers had worked alongside British soldiers and how they had used to send sweets back home and join the family for supper. Food was distributed through the Victory Kitchens about which she also sang a snippet of a song. According to Esther, the food was unsatisfying. She mentioned the black market and remembered potatoes being sold as well. Esther praised her mother profoundly for managing to give her and her siblings a good life despite the latter having been widowed at a young age with eight children to care for.
