Scope and content

In the first part of the interview, Esther described what she had remembered from the Second World War. She explained how gas masks were distributed and they were taught how to put them on once war was declared. She mentioned some of the shelters her family used to hide in, such as Farsons’ old factory and another which was dug underneath another factory close by. She also described the activities in the shelters such as praying and playing children’s games. She was infected with scabies and their food was rationed, though in spite of everything she and her siblings were always well-clothed and wearing shoes.
