Scope and content

Dates covered: 1931-1945. After the outbreak of war, Maria Stella 'Esther' Formosa and her family had to move to Rabat as refugees where they ended up staying with another three families. She recalled the air-raid warnings and a radio programme on the Rediffusion. She discussed the shelters they used to stay at and how they spent their time there. She described the hunger, the food rations they were allocated, the Victory Kitchens and the black market. She then explained how many including herself were infected with scabies. During the interview she sometimes broke into wartime songs and riddles.
