Department: Finance. Receiver General is requesting a temporary advance from the Treasury of £50 for the Chief Government Medical Officer to meet the daily and weekly payments required for the current month.
Department: Railway. Manager is requesting if workmen paid by daily wages presently at working at the Imtarfa Railway were to be paid on the 24th instant following the Govt. Notice on the 16th March.
Department: Legal. Crown Advocate is stating that in spite having had an extension to file an Indictment against Giuseppe Gerada charged with having committed bodily harm, he was requesting a further extension to be able to do so.
Department: Educational. New Syllabus for Examination for Writerships in the Public Service together with a Draft of Govt. Notice regarding same.
Department: W. & E. Acting Supt. was requesting authority to raise the rate of pay from 8d to 1s. to two Book Carriers, namely Giuseppe Attard and Giuseppe Grech employed since 1896.d They were of much help to the Meter Readers in distributing and collecting the declaration forms relative to the number of occupants in consumers' houses.
Department: Council. Supplementary Estimates for several Departments submitted for the opinion of the Council of Government of Malta for the year 1900.
Department: Educational. Director is reporting that following the appointment of Prof. Magro to Head of the Elementary Schools the Chair of Mathematics and Physics had become vacant and the General Council of the University were unanimous in proposing that a Notice calling for candidates to fill the vacancy be issued both in England and in Malta.

Department: Medical. Sanitary Engineer informed the C.G.M.O. that since the law on Key Plans had been enforced, buildings were being erected all over the island on new streets, which made the public and consequently registered in all records by the obvious name "Nuova Strada" (New Street). This was causing confusion and all the Dept's. records were of no use in case reference wanted to be made in the future. Therefore he was requesting that the Supt. of Public Works cause that each new street designed on the Key Plan be marked by an index letter which could be quoted in case of reference until the street was named as prescribed by law. This measure would be very useful to the PWD, the Police and particularly the public.
Department: W. & E. Acting Supt. is requesting that Government Notice No. 6 dated 2nd January 1900 be repealed due to the reduced yield of the springs.
Department: Finance. Receiver General and Contractor of Contracts is forwarding 5 cheques for the amount of £5000 to meet current disbursements for the signature of His Excellency the Governor.
Department: Police. Supt. is reporting that following the death on the 18th of ex Police Sergeant Carmelo Sultana who was employed as Gatekeeper of the Palace Armoury he was recommending that this position be filled by ex Police Sergeant Vincenzo Agius who was invalided in consequence of injuries received while on service. The rate to be paid to him would be of 1s per diem irrespective of his pension with deduction on account of sickness.
Department: Minute. C.S.G. is informing Dr. John Borg M.D. that he had been appointed as Superintendent of Public Gardens at a salary of £120 a year with quarters on probation for a year. He was to commence on the retirement of Mr. M. Bonavia from the service and to occupy the premises previously occupied by him. He was to be entrusted with the superintendence of all the Public Gardens, Model Farms or Agricultural Establishments in which the Govt. might be concerned and he was not to indulge in any private practice of any kind. He was also required at any time to undertake in lieu of or in addition to his present appointment work in connection with the P.H.D. or to give lectures on agricultural or natural history at the University or elsewhere.
Department: Works. Supt. is stating that the Eastern Telegraph Co. Ltd. was intending to demolish and rebuild the front wall of their property situated near St. George's Bay limits of St. Julian's, so it was being proposed to dismember from that property two strips of land to incorporate with the public site for the widening and aligning the public thoroughfare. He is therefore requesting the necessary authority for the purchase and sale of said strips of ground with an amount of £20.10.0 due to the Company for the difference in value between the said strips of ground.
Department: Medical. C.G.M.O. is reporting that during the previous month Dispensaries in Valletta namely Arpa's, Speeranza's, Economic, Original English and Dr. Terreni's Dispensary had been inspected by the Medical Board. In the latter one several drugs had been found to be deteriorated and it was ascertained that there was no Chemis in charge of same. Due to this latter fact he was requesting that action by Police be taken on this matter. Eventually Dr. Terreni's case was heard and he was sentenced to - 5s. ammenda for having practised the profession of chemist and dispersed drugs without a licence and another 10s ammenda for having kept in his Dispensary deteriorated drugs.
Department: Postmaster is requesting to appoint on the Minor Establishment in his Dept. Carmelo Zammit as Boy Sorter No. 3 at £7.10s.0 per annum. Carmelo would be 15 years of age the next July and he was of good character and had attended the Hamrun Govt. Elem. School attaining the 5th Standard and was considered "one of the best in that Class, very bright, and of good conduct". He had also been tested in English, Italian and Arithmetic of which subjects he was found to have a very fair knowledge of.
Department: Prison. Superintendent is requesting authority to unlock a prisoner at 4.15 a.m. and leave him out of his cell one hour after locking up in the afternoon for the purpose of extinguishing lights in the morning and lighting lamps in the evening. The prisoner chosen for these duties is always one of the best behaved men in the Prison and is accompanied by a Warder wherever he goes.
Department: Educational. Director is requesting that he may be authorized to pay to Dr. E.C. Vassallo the sum of £48 voted by the Council of Government in order that he may complete his studies abroad for one year.
Department: The Urinal near the Upper Barraca was being considered as unsuitable in view that no kind of cover could screen it from view from above terrace for decency's sake. A suitable place would be inside the Barracca itself as it is the practice in Public Gardens abroad.
Department: Miscellaneous. The Chairman of the Fishing Commission is reporting on the best way to encouraging Tunny fishing and all other fishing. The Commission was of the opinion that prior to entering upon the consideration of the several questions connected with their enquiry it was necessary that they should have access to the reports furnished to Govt. in the past on the subject of the fishing industry including Capt. Bur'ns report on the result of recent trawling experiments.
