Archival history

Serracino-Inglott, was born in Valletta on the 26th April 1936 and when only 15 years he was admitted to the University of Malta. He remained clasped within its folds ever after, including a spell of years as its Rector. From his base at University of Malta, both before and after becoming Father Peter, he lived the life of a wandering scholar. He read Philosophy, Politics and economics at Oxford and was awarded the Chancellor’s Prize for English Prose. He studied theology in Paris and years later he was awarded the Legion d’Honneur for services to French culture. He obtained a doctorate in Philosophy and was ordained priest by Cardinal Montini (soon to become Pope Paul VI)in Milan. His Eminence had sent him to a mixed religious community bound by the Benedictine rule, but all its members were artists of one kind or another – and therefore eccentrics. On his return to Malta Fr. Peter tried to establish a branch of this community and the group produced a large number of TV programmes, graphically experimental catechism books and multi-media celebrations. Perhaps it was the very effervescence of the tiny group, which brought about its premature end. Meanwhile Fr. Peter had been appointed National Chaplain of the Young Christian workers Movement and became a prime advocate of worker managed enterprises. He has been for many years advisor to the prime Minister of Malta and is now one of the nominees of the Maltese Government to the Convention on the Future of Europe.
