Administrative history

Established in 1977, Enemalta is the leading energy services provider in the Maltese Islands, entrusted with the distribution of electricity, and the development of the national electricity distribution network.

Archival history

Some of the photos were the property of the Public Works Department which in 1972 was entrusted with the setting up of the Casa Leone archives under the Antiquities section.

Scope and content

The collection covers the period from the 1890s onwards following the advent of photography in Malta. Most of the records consist of photographic prints, some mounted on cardboard. In few cases the archive holds glass plates, negatives, or slides.

All records were kept.

The collection is continously increasing from public entities and private donations.

System of arrangement

The images originate from a number of departments, private collections, or other sources. For practical purposes the fonds principles were not followed and the whole collection was organised into one series and assigned a sequential number

The National Archives is to be contacted as the permits in connection with reproduction depend on the type of creator, and on any arrangement that might exist with donors in case of private deposits.
