Malta. Department of Trade

In February of 1964, the Department of Trade became separate from the Department of Industry but, remained under the Ministry of Industrial Development and Tourism.

In April 1966 a new Government took office and the Department of Trade was placed under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Trade, Industry and Agriculture.

o To maintain touch with local and overseas commercial concerns;
o To advise the Minister on all questions affecting trade;
o To maintain touch with British commercial representatives in foreign and Commonwealth countries;
o To control and operate import and export licensing;
o To maintain price control on certain commodities;
o To register patents, designs and trademarks;
o To obtain and maintain stocks of certain essential commodities;
o To operate the rationing scheme;
o To register commercial partnerships when the Commercial Partnerships Ordinance comes into force.
