            A photograph of an etching by Matteo Perez d'Aleccio (1547-1616) depicting the height of the main Turkish attack on Birgu, on 21st August 1565. The Mount Salvadore battery is firing from the far left along with the Turkish assault. They have managed to place their flags on the walls, however, they are being held. In the centre, holding a baton in his right hand, we find the Grand Master of Valletta, La Valette.

The Turkish batteries assault the posts of the Castilian and German Knights in Birgu. In this picture, the viewpoint has shifted over to the right, looking straight over Mount Salvadore to Fort St Elmo.
