Born in Vittoriosa, Gauci started her vocal training with her aunt, soprano Hilda Mallia Tabone. She continued her studies in Milan where she obtained the Diploma in Singing from the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi and from the the Centro di Perfezzionamento Artistici of La Scala. In 1981 she won her first International Competition in Milan, followed by numerous other prizes. Gauci made her stage debut in 1984 in Bologna followed by her first appearance at the Teatro alla Scala. Since the first years of her career Gauci has sung at numerous prestigious opera-houses all over Europe and in 1987 she made her very successful debut in the USA. That same year she inaugurated the Los Angeles Opera Season in Puccini’s La Boheme with Placido Domingo. Her debut at the Metropolitan opera in New York took place in 2001. After having sung such roles, Gauci nowadays concentrates on main parts in operas as well as the title roles. Gauci had a great success when making her debut in a new production at Vienna State Opera in 1997. In 2002 she sang the main part in the five-act version of Verdi at the Munich Summer Festival. Her appearances also took her to numerous prestigious opera –houses where she sang in various symphonies with world famous conductors. She has also collaborated with stage-directors and has participated in video recordings. She recorded various operas on Cd and recorded an album with arias from Italian Operas.
Gauci is married to conductor, Michael Laus and has appeared together both locally and abroad.
