Rodgers joined the RAF in his late 20s and was a trained photographer, very often doing aerial photography. He also documented his time in Malta in the late 1930s through photography.

Lawrence Rizzo Marich, born in Valletta in 1828, ran the V. Marich and Co. business and was supported by his sons Alfred and Joseph Rizzo Marich. Lawrence Rizzo Marich was handed the business from Vincenzo Marich, of which Lawrence was his first cousin. By 1862, the business received its first appointment by His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales in 1862, where permission to affix "By appointment to His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales" over the door of their establishment was granted.

Joseph Rizzo Marich was born in Valletta in July, 1867. Joseph was involved in the running of the business V. Marich and Co. along with his brother, Alfred Rizzo Marich (1860-1897). Both brothers took over the business from their father, Lawrence Rizzo Marich (1828-1887), however, his brother died at the young age of 36, leaving the business in his hands until his brother's children were old enough to run the business.

During Joseph's running of the business, V. Marich and Co. entered into an agreement with A. G. Cousis and Co. to manufacture Marich cigarettes. Adverts in foreign newspapers indicate that the selling of and exporting of cigarettes started around 1905 onwards.

Alfred Rizzo Marich, 1860-1897, was the one managing the V. Marich and Co. business following the death of his father Lawrence Rizzo Marich. His brother, Joseph Rizzo Marich (1867-1908) was also assisting in the running of the business. Alfred Rizzo Marich, died at the young age of 36, after an epileptic fit whilst swimming. His sons, Arthur and Edward Rizzo Marich were too young to take over the business at the time and his brother, Joseph Rizzo Marich, took over the business from 1897 onwards.
