Scope and content
The colourful picture depicts the Immaculate Conception surrounded by various saints and Franciscan souls in adoration. Pope Pius IX, during whose reign the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception was promulgated and Pope Pius XII who was Pope during the year in question, are seen kneeling down in front of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This image is a memento of the Franciscan Conventual friars commemorating the six centuries that the Franciscans defended and taught that the Blessed Virgin Mary was born immaculate and the first one hundred years since the promulgation of the Immaculate Dogma.
