Scope and content

The pale-coloured image depicts the Spanish Dominican St Vincent Ferreri (+1419) and on every side, there is an angel kneeling down. The one on his left is holding an open copy of the Holy Bible on the Book of Revelation. St. Vincent is very often pictured with wings. Multitudes of people have witnessed him, in the middle of preaching, suddenly assume wings and fly off to help some suffering person; he would return in the same manner and continue preaching. Above his head there is written in Latin "Timete Deum et Date Ell'Honorem" meaning "Fear God and give him honour" - the key theme of the Book of Revelation (Rev. 14: 7). This image is a memento commemorating the celebration for the sick on the centenary celebrations of the Saint held at the Basilica of St Dominic in Valletta. This image was distributed by the Commission of the Maltese Catholic Action, which works with the sick.
