Scope and content

The image shows the popular portrait of the French St Vincent de Paule (+1660) the patron of Charitable societies. After being sold as a slave and succeeding in fleeing, he started taking care of the convict slaves when he was appointed chaplain of the galleys. It is a memento of the third centenary since the death of the saint. Overleaf, one finds two quotes from the Gospel of Matthew about charity as well as two axioms about poverty, mainly that when one gives charity donations, he will be giving all to God. The second one advises that if one does not have any monetary donations, he can offer a smile or a kind word full of love to the poor instead.
