              V. Marich and Co. shopfront including the addition of the glass shop windows on Palace Square in Valletta. On the right, their agents, Paterson & Co., in London. V. Marich and Co. were agents for Peter Dawson Whisky and Masta Pipes. On the of the glass shop window display one can see a number of Masta pipes. In the right glass display one can see a selection of Marich cigarette boxes.

              In 1888, Messrs V. Marich & Co. received another appointment by His Royal Highness, Prince Alfred, the Duke of Edinburgh. Messrs V. Marich & Co. were appointed as cigar and tobacco merchants to His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh. In the 1890s, besides supplying Navy and Army messes and clubs, V. Marich & Co. was by then already exporting cigars and tobacco to the UK and to the East, having agents established in the UK, Channels Islands and Bermuda.

              This follows the first appointment by His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales in 1862, where permission to affix "By appointment to His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales" over the door of their establishment was granted.

              A receipt for business typed on a V. Marich and Co. letterhead. The receipt refers to business done with Messrs. Colombus Ltd, one of the main manufacturers of Egyptian cigarettes in Malta.

              The receipt also displays the coat of arms of the Prince of Wales and the wording 'By Appointment' which was a guarantee given to V. Marich and Co. by His Royal Highness, The Duke of Windsor when he was Prince of Wales.

              To the left of the receipt, one can see the various foreign agents in London, Jersey, Bermuda, India and New York. To the right of the receipt, one can see crossed out text reading 'Peter Dawson, Ltd, who was their previous agent. The new agent is indicated on top of the crossed out text reading 'Gilmour Thomson and Co ltd, both whiskey distillars in Glasgow.
