Scope and content

The colourful picture depicts a Byzantine style cross with the Crucified Christ crowned as Christ the King instead of the crown of thorns. The arc above His head is a rainbow with the words PAX CHRISTI IN REGNO CHRISTI meaning that the Peace of Christ is found in His Kingdom. In the background, one finds a map of the world explaining that the Kingdom of God is for all man. Underneath this, the famous Grotto at Lourdes in France is depicted with the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the right. A priest is celebrating Mass and saying the prayer of consecration while lifting upthe chalice at the altar of the Grotto with an altar boy behind him. Overleaf, one finds a prayer dedicated to the Holy Trinity, Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of the Immaculate Conception - the title She gave Herself in Her apparitions to Bernardette Soubirous in Lourdes between February and June 1858. This image is a memento of the closing of the Jubilee Year of Redemption in 1934.
