Department: Military. Following an outbreak of Typhoid Fever at St. Francis Barracks a request was made to remove 3 sewer ventilators close to Barrack room air ventilators. As a temporary measure they were sealed up but appeared desirable that they should be removed. A suggestion was made to have only one shaft to ventilate the 3 sewers. The Sanitary Engineer at the Public Health Dept. gave his opinion too warning against accumulation of sewer gases which could be very dangerous. Two site plans are also attached.
Department: Military. Col. on the Staff of C.R.E. is asking if the Civil Govt. for what period the emptying of cesspits by Govt. Traction Engine was suspended and that during this suspension it would be necessary to resort to the objectionable practice of emptying cesspit at 7A, Strada Tigné, Sliema by hand and he also asked when the main drainage system would reach Strada Tignè and the houses therein be connected.
