Scope and content

The sepia-coloured image depicts the Crucifed Christ surrounded at the top in the middle by God the Father and on His side the Blessed Virgin Mary, St Joseph and several other saints. On the left hand side, there are characters symbolising the story of salvation, including the snake (symbolising sin); on the right hand side, there are also depicted some demons asking for mercy. At the foot of the Cross, there is a choir of angels dressed in white facing the Cross. Overleaf, one finds a death memento pertaining to Karmenu Zammit, aged 32 from Hamrun who died tragically during the aerial attack on HMS Moor on the 8th of April 1941, during World War III. His only four year old daughter was left an orphan, as her mother (his wife) had already passed away. He also left mourning his loss his parent, siblings and other family members.
