One of Malta’s best-known pianists, Turner was born in Valletta in 1932, and was educated at the Convent of the Sacred Heart. Her musical studies led to obtaining the licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music, a licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music, and is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, London. She pursued further studies in Germany where she studied under Horbowski in Stuttgart and was finalist at the Bayreuth and Munich piano competitions; in Rome under Carlo Zecchi, and under Francis Poulenc in Paris who highlighted the score of his piano concerto with interpretative annotations for her.
Over the years, Cynthia Turner has given a significant amount of recitals and orchestral performances in various overseas venues, including
venues in London, Luxembourg, Munich, Bayreuth and Palermo as well as on overseas radios. However, Turner’s greatest dedication and commitment has been towards her Maltese public for whom she has performed over a long span of years. She always attracted full houses whenever she performed at the Manoel Theatre. On the occasion of the State Visit to Malta of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth IT in 1967, she was entrusted with a Royal Performance.
Cynthia has been consistently sought after as an adjudicator and teacher of senior students.
She is a Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Academiques. In 2004 Turner was made member of the National Order of Merit (MOM).
Turner is married to Anthony Caruana and they have two sons, Nicholas and Christopher.
