Born in Senglea in 1927, Thake studied at St Edward’s College. He joined the civil service as a clerk typist, and in 1952 was appointed welfare officer, a position he occupied for 33 years.
Thake started his stage career at the age of 15 in a school production of Romeo and Juliet. In 1947 he started acting with Maleth and in British Institute productions and also followed an intensive drama course at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), London. After a 10-year break, he resumed his theatre work in 1962 when he took part in Treasure in Malta, a film shot locally.
Thake has appeared in numerous plays produced by Maleth, Atturi Theatre Group, and MADC and was partner in 3K’s Productions. He was also a partner and producer of G.U.N.T. for a number of years. He is still active in the theatre.
On TV Thake took part in such works as Inkwiet and Bahar Wiehed. He also has revived one of the plays he had worked in Monochrome, Nhar it-Tieg. He has produced a number of TV quizzes. He also read the commentary to the entry by Malta - An Eye to Reckon With - by Francis Ebejer for the Irish TV Festival which earned third price in the Golden Harp Festival in Ireland. He currently works for Radio Malta and other radio stations. He has taken part in the Italian show Forte Forte Forfe by Raffaella Carrà and also a production featuring Stafania Rotolo. He carried out entertainment work in Australia in 1982.
Thake played the principal part in The investigator, and also participated in A Twist of Sand, Midnight Express, The Brothers, Christopher Columbus, The Streets of Berlin, and The Protectors.
Thake was awarded the Midalja Ghall-Qadi tarRepubblika (MQR).
Thake married Lina in 1953 and they have six children.
